Longing for the sea...

It's the end of winter and I am already longing for summer and the seaside. Then again, I don't often get to go even when it's summer.
This time of year makes me very  nostalgic of things long gone...

Pepita's birthday

I don't know when Pepita's actual birthday is but she waltzed into my life 4 years ago on February 26. It is a little bit bittersweet to realize this is probably the last time we celebrate this day together  but, heh, carpe diem! It's ham party at casa Mc Bain today!

My Alice in Wonderland collection - King cake porcelain figurines

In France and Belgium  Epiphany Day ( the Celebration of the 3 Wise Men) in early January is celebrated with a special cake (the King Cake or Galette des rois) in which a little item called "fève" (bean, as originally the item was an uncooked bean) is hidden. The person who gets the "fève" is king or queen for a day.
The tradition dates back to Ancient Rome ...for more info, check Wikipedia ;)
Fèves are highly collectibles so it's not surprising that they made Alice and Disney ones.

The Queen and King of Hearts
This porcelain set is from 1997.  It was made by Arguydal.
Every few years they make a new version. I sure would like the gold and platinum edition  with an Alice holding Dinah :)

And an even rarer caterpillar and the Tweedles

My Alice in Wonderland collection - latest arrivals

If you read my blog, you've probably noticed that I have a lot of items from Japan. Now I have never been there, though I'd love to, but I have a Japanese friend who sends me lots and lots of delightful things.
And I've just received (like this morning...) another package, so here's...just unboxed...my latest pieces...

A lovely tote bag, item that came with the annual Alice in Wonderland magazine(see below)
Bag is by Aquagirl, a Japanese brand of clothes and accessories.

A pink melamine plate from the Japanese Disney Store.

Candies!!!!!! And what a gorgeeous packaging too...

Cheshire Cats and Little Oysters...

  What could those be?

Chopsticks!!! Not unpacked yet but I am going to use them. By Wakasanurihashi.

The annual Alice magazine. You could call it "fan book" too. It has a recap of the story with pictures, fashion ideas, and photos (lots of) from new items available.

Oh, yes, the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel now has Alice rooms...

And could this be a...stuffed toy ;)  Another beautiful Cheshire Cat made by Afternoon Tea.

Butt shot...look at the fluffiness :D

This is not from Japan but I found it this week at a local shop. A piece of fabric for DIY project.
